Cynthia's Kayak Adventure

Bob and Trish have two peddle kayaks. Bob offered to take Cynthia out for a little trip to see if she would like the different type of kayak. Here are some photos of the day.

Little did we know that this day would lead to bigger and better things. Yes, Cynthia would be ready to compete in the Cauyco Races on the 4th of July.

It did create a little problem. Now she wants a peddle kayak and we can't figure out how to get one down here without it costing an arm and a leg.

Cayuco Club Painting Day

There was no doubt about it, the Cayuco Club needed a face lift desperately. So a group of cruisers put on thier thinking caps and started to talk color schemes. We tossed around tipico colors of the maya, caribbean, or a two-tone palette.

After the color scheme was chosen we started to pick where specific colors would go. This was done in a most scientific manner...the colors where written on pieces of paper and put in a basket and picked at random and assigned to areas.

The sign-up sheet was posted and a free BBQ and 2 days of slippage offered and sure enough we had 24 people ready to start painting.

Beth and Cindy start looking at colors

None of this would have been possible without our new owner's support. He was generous in his compensation, time, and money.

The palette is chosen.

Before we cracked the cans open and started the all day painting marathon. What a time we had. Great People making light of a big task with smiles on their faces.

Only the young nimble ones can do this kind of work.

The Way We Were

Colors start to be applied

The bar getting a fresh coat of caribbean orange.

The book case presented a really great opportunity to test the skill of Barnacle Bob. He was more than up to the task!

The sink now stands up brighter and shows up in its own special way.

As the organizer of the day I must thank the cruisers who made it happen: Jim on SeaYeti; Michael and Cynthia on Dragonheart;Linda and Al on Carina, Bob and Trish on Barnacle; Paul, Linda, Calin, and Ahlani on Kalani; Bob and Kay on Bettie; Tip, Frida, and Miguel on Coup de Vent; Jill and Rod on Look Far; Mike on Se Fue; Mike on Haliai; Jim and Carol on Windquest; Beth and John on Up Jinks; and Frank on Elisabeth. If I have left anyone out I am sure they will make me walk the plank.
A special thank you to Trish, the drip miester, you did more deep kneebends in one day than a platoon of soliders during a PT test! The floors thank you and so do I.

El Boqueron Trip

The Elephant

Having a car in Central America makes it easier to get around. Thanks to Bob and Trish on S/V Barnacle we were able to take an easy day trip to EL Boqueron, the Hot Springs and enjoy the countryside of Guatemala.

Arriving at EL Boqueon you contact the guardian and hire a small john boat for a trip up a small but beautiful canyon. The day we went the water was a little low so we knew we would have to portage the boat in some areas. No problem we had two strong men with us plus our guide!

The water has carved this canyon for years and left caves, tree roots and if you look closely at the rock formations some interesting animals and faces on the rock-face:
the Mayan face, the tiger, the duck, the throat of the shark, the elephant, the woman, the Virgin Mary, the climber, etc. The guide points each rock formation out by picking up a small rock and throwing that rock with such accuracy that you can’t miss what he is showing you.

The Throat of the Shark (El Tiberon)

You turn around only after you have left the boat and climbed the cliff so that you can see the “canasta” the basket. This is a large area of land that fell and is balanced on a point in the river! After our trip back we sat by the river and had our cold fried chicken from Pollo Campero and soft drinks.

Now we were headed to the Hot Springs.
